Billie Eilish on Her Relationship With Jesse Rutherford: ‘I’m Really Happy About It’

Billie Eilish returned to Vanity Fair this week for her “Same Interview, The Sixth Year” time capsule conversation, five years after she first sat down with the magazine for the release of her 2017 debut EP Don’t Smile at Me.

Billie’s relationship with new boyfriend Jesse Rutherford, who is 11 years her senior, was one of the topics discussed during the chat.

“I’m just really inspired by this person, and he’s inspired by me,” Eilish explained. “It’s really cool, and I’m very excited and happy about it.”

“Say what you need to say, but, like, I am in control right now,” she continued. This is something I did.

I managed to get to the point in my life where I not only knew the hottest fucking fucker alive, but also pulled his ass. Are you serious? Can we just give me a round of applause?”

It’s not the first time Eilish, who turns 21 next month, has brought up the age difference between herself and Rutherford.

The couple responded to the backlash with Halloween costumes in October. Rutherford wore a bald cap with grey hair and Eilish dressed up as a baby, complete with a bonnet and diaper.

Rutherford has known Eilish since she was 15 or 16 years old, according to TMZ. According to a source, her brother Finneas, who has allegedly known the Neighbourhood vocalist for quite some time, approves of their relationship.

“Jesse gets along perfectly with [Billie’s] brother Finneas, who is so important to her,” an insider revealed. “Finneas agrees because he enjoys seeing his sister so happy and giddy. Billie has gone through so many incredible changes and growth in the last few years that she is ready to be with a man on her level. Jesse, she claims, is the ideal man for her.”
